The Great Wall of China

Informational

The Great Wall of China is the longest wall in the world, stretching over 13,000 miles across northern China. It was built over many centuries by different Chinese emperors to protect their lands from invaders. Workers used stone, brick, wood, and packed earth to construct the massive wall. Some sections were built on steep mountains, making construction very difficult.

Millions of workers helped build the Great Wall, including soldiers, peasants, and prisoners. The work was dangerous and exhausting. Many workers died during construction. Today, the Great Wall is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world. Parts of it are over 2,000 years old! Although some sections have crumbled, much of the wall still stands as a reminder of ancient China's engineering skills.
